About

Dana Adobe Organizational History

In 1954 the San Luis Obispo County Historical Society purchased the Dana Adobe and a 6-foot perimeter around the building for $500. The Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos Inc. (DANA) spun off of the Historical Society in 1999. The organization has a history of accomplishing projects and programs. Its first major effort was the restoration of the Dana Adobe itself, which began in 1999 and completed in 2013. DANA negotiated the lease of 100 acres of land located east of the Dana Adobe in 2009 to expand the Rancho property. The organization then worked to build its Cultural Center, which was completed in 2018. Efforts are now focused on building out historic components to better tell the story of California and the Rancho-era.
