Call for Artists: All About Trees Exhibit at DANA Adobe and Cultural Center

The DANA Adobe & Cultural Center will be hosting a gallery show in July with the theme “All About Trees”. To expand the show and create an opportunity to exhibit with renowned painters, local artists are invited to submit, 1 tree painting completed in 2019 or 2020, to a juried selection process. There will be 20-25 paintings selected for this show, depending on exhibit space. 
Submitted entries must be paintings of trees and may be any painting medium.

 

 

 

 CALL FOR ARTIST ENTRIES

The DANA Adobe & Cultural Center will be hosting a gallery show in July with the theme “All About Trees” with featured California Regional Painter Milford Zornes. Milford Zornes studied and appreciated the various intricate forms and patterns of trees and created many tree drawings and paintings. 

To expand the show and create an opportunity to exhibit with renowned painters, local artists are invited to submit, 1 tree painting completed in 2019 or 2020, to a juried selection process.  There will be 20-25 paintings selected for this show, depending on exhibit space. The juror for this selection process will be Jerry Smith, award winning painter and President of the Central Coast Watercolor Society.

Submitted entries must be paintings of trees and may be any painting medium. Artists juried into the exhibition must exhibit the painting for the entire length of the show. The painting submitted must be the original work of the artist and, if framed, must be under Plexiglas (acrylic) with a simple narrow gallery frame and neutral colored mats.  Accepted work must be securely wired and ready to hang using D-rings.  No saw-tooth hangers allowed.  Paintings may be for sale with the non-profit Dana Adobe retaining 25% of the sales price as a donation.

Liability and Insurance:  Although the utmost care will be taken in handling paintings; the DANA Cultural Center and its representatives will not be responsible for damage or loss.  Artists should carry their own insurance.

Minimum image size – 11” X 15”

Maximum image size – 15” X 22”

Method of Selection:  The juror will make selections from digital images.  Artist will be notified of the juror’s selection on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.  Final juror selection will be from the actual submitted work with the juror’s right of refusal.

Entry Requirements:

Complete the entry form and mail with a $10.00 entry fee check to:

DANA Cultural Center – 671 S, Oakglen Ave., Nipomo, CA 93444 OR drop off at the DANA Cultural Center, Monday – Friday, between 11 am and 3 pm.

Email digital images to DANAsubmissions@danaadobe.org. Format must be JPG, at least 300 dpi but not to exceed 8MB.

Each file shall be named with the artist’s Last Name, First name and title of the work.

 

Entry form, digital submission, and fee must be received by 3 pm, Monday, July 6, 2020.

CALENDAR

July 6, 2020 – 3:00 pm entry form, entry fee, digital submission due.

July 8, 2020 – Email notification of selected artists.

July 9th and 10th, 2020 – Artists deliver selected entries to DANA Cultural Center, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.

July 15, 2020 – Tree Show opens

September 25, 2020 – Show closes

September 29, 2020 – Pick up paintings 10:00 am – 12:00 noon.

Coloring Contest for NatureFest: Get Nurtured by Nature

Due to the closed status of DANA because of COVID-19, the deadline for coloring contest submissions is extended to an unknown date as of this time.  The final date will be updated as the health conditions and precautions change.  Therefore the announcement of selected paintings is also unknown at this time. Please check the website weekly for updates.  Thank you for participating and stay safe.

The DANA Cultural Center in Nipomo, is a place where people of all ages can once again connect with nature.  DANA will host a NatureFest to engage the community in re-discovering how a lifestyle that includes time spent in nature is essential to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of all of us. This free event will feature informational booths about community organizations that are involved in nature.

This year we want to include the Children in a Coloring Contest.

All entries will be showcased at our NatureFest for the students to come and see with their families.

There will be two age group winners, one from 1st through 3rd grade and one from 4th through 6th.

The two winners artwork will be used as the official 2020 NatureFest Logo and included on all Advertising for the event.

The rules are as follows:

NatureFest Coloring Contest Rules & Regulations

  1. This is a skill-based contest and chance plays no part in the determination of winning.
  2. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A purchase will not increase odds of winning.
  3. Contest is open to all school age children
  4. Contest begins February 10, 2020 at 8 AM PST- UNTIL further notice the contest is on going!
  5. Submit your entry one of three ways:

  1. Entry must include your full name, age (at time of entry), a legal guardian’s contact email address and phone number. If entering via Instagram, this information may be provided if Dana Adobe messages you to notify you of a win.
  2. Entry must be received no later than 5 PM PST on March 6.
  3. Limit one (1) entry per person.
  4. There are no restrictions on what an entrant can use to color the image.
  5. Entries will be judged by DANA staff based on:
  • Creativity, concept and vision.
  • Coloring skill and overall artistic ability according to that age category.
  • Entrants will be judged in the following age categories: 1st through 3rd grade and one from 4th through 6th.

11.Two Winners will be selected to be used as the official 2020 NatureFest Logo.

  1. Winners will be determined by the judges in their sole discretion. The decisions of the judges will be final and binding in all respects.
  2. The name, age, city, and state of each winner will be posted on the DANA website and may appear on DANA Social Media.
  3. All entries become the property of DANA and may be used or reproduced in any manner and for any purpose by DANA without additional consent or compensation, and will not be acknowledged or returned.
  4. By participating, contest entrants:
  • Represent that they have complied with these Official Contest Rules
  • Have received parental consent and grant DANA the right to use his or her name
  • Release DANA from all and all liability in connection with this Contest
