About our mission
Our
mission is to restore and preserve the
historic Dana Adobe (Casa de Dana) and
promote development of the Rancho Nipomo
Living Historical Park as a means of
enhancing knowledge and understanding of
California's Rancho era, and to encourage an
appreciation of the many peoples who
contributed to that era's influence on the
present and future of California.
Our
Vision
We have a vision of the future
that drives our work as an organization. Our
vision statement is:
The Rancho Nipomo is a 200 acre+
living museum reflecting both the everyday and
historically significant life and times of the
Euro-Americans, Mexican Californians and Chumash
and other native peoples, showcasing the casa
and the Rancho’s cultural and natural history,
as well as highlighting the working economies
and contributions made by the Dana family and
Rancho inhabitants to the California rancho era.
Our commitment to the land calls
on us to make a coordinated effort to promote
and undertake land conservation in our County.
While we have many important principles that
guide our work, we emphasize the following as
core to our mission.
-
Integrity
– We are dedicated to
fulfilling our mission with integrity and
honesty; always working with others in the
spirit of cooperation and collaboration.
-
Respect
– We recognize that our
stewardship practices will reflect our
respect for the natural and cultural history
of the land. Our programs will reflect
respect for the cultural diversity of past
and present.
-
Historical Accuracy-
We strive for accuracy in our research, in
the implementation of interpretive programs
and in the restoration of the Dana Adobe and
reconstruction of historic structures on the
Rancho.
-
Organizational Excellence
– We are committed to being professional,
effective, and efficient, and are
accountable to our donors, grantors,
stakeholders, partners and the community at
large.
-
Community Involvement
– We are committed to working
with diverse partners and volunteers to
achieve our mission.
